100 % Linen

Linen is a strong, durable fiber from the flax plant. Around for thousands of years, this fiber is three times stronger than cotton and second in strength to silk.

It’s created by extracting the long cellulose fibers from the center of this tall thin plant. Once harvested, it is one of the most laborious yarns to produce.

Linen is perfect for knitting spring and summer weight garments because of its absorbency and drape. The long linen fibers have a natural wax coating, providing a lovely sheen to completed projects.

Other wonderful flax yarn properties include that it is anti-fungal and antibacterial.

One of the characteristics of 100% linen yarn is that it has a stiffness to it. When in the yarn skein and while being knitted, it feels like it’s not going to be very soft against the skin.

Surprisingly, it will be! When washed, linen will begin to soften over time and provide soft yet crisp stitches that feel cool and refreshing against the skin - exactly what you want for warm weather wear!

Note: Linen is supposed to be somewhat crisp; that is part of the nature and beauty of this fiber.

All yarn skeins are one of a kind even though they are dyed according to the same recipe and in the same dye bath. This is what makes hand-dyed yarns so unique, just like you are.

For dyeing, I have used professional fiber reactive dye that binds to the material so that the dye and the yarn become one. This makes the color extremely colorfast and fade-resistant.

I have rinsed each skein thoroughly by hand, but despite that, a little bleeding can occur at the first wash, as it is with all hand-dyed yarn.

If you are experiencing major issues with any yarn please let me know.

As with all hand dyed items, I recommend hand washing your yarn/finished item in cool water and laying it flat to dry. I rinse this yarn until the water runs crystal clear, but small amounts of excess dye may rarely come off with the first couple of washings or on your fingers If you wear lotions or have oily hands (this is called "crocking." If this happens, rest assured that it is only excess dye and should not affect the coloring of your yarn in any way. If a large amount of bleeding ever occurs with any of our items, please contact me so we can make it right. I always recommend hand washing handmade items to preserve the longevity of my beautiful work.

I recommend using cool water and a neutral soap, such as baby shampoo, when blocking your finished item if you are knitting or crocheting it.

If you need more yarn than there is available or if you want this color on a different yarn base, send me a message, I'm here to help you 💜
